The pages are still blank, but there is a miraculous feeling of the words being there, written in invisible ink and clamoring to become visible - Vladimir Nabokov

2009

Summing up the last year seems to be a blogging tradition, so I shall bow to tradition:

I wrote two books in 2009, more than fulfilling my resolution from the previous year.

I hoped to query more agents (only 4 sent out--which were rejected. I decided to retrench before embarrassing myself further), but I altered my plan when I realized I should write more. I think my books are pretty good, but I know they can be better.

I started this blog and met 10 wonderful followers (thank you guys!!) as well as discovered a rich blogosphere that I could access for support and friendship. Probably the BEST discovery of 2009.

My husband finished his Masters degree. I'm so proud of him (off the topic of writing but had to mention it).

I told my boss that I didn't want to run my own lab (it would have left me no time for writing or anything else), which was very scary to admit out loud.

For 2010, I plan to write at least two more books, get good enough to find an agent, and make even more blogging friends.

I hope you fulfilled all your resolutions (at least the ones that mattered) and have a Happy New Year!

  1. I think you've had a really good year, Lorel!

I wouldn't worry much about 4 agent rejections. I got about 30....including one from the agent who is representing me now! Oh well...you can always re-query. :)

Congrats to your husband! That's a major accomplishment.

    Happy 2010!

  2. I don't make resolutions, but I'm impressed with yours :)

I just try to get better and do my best at whatever I try. Life is chock full - and I really don't want to add any more stress :)

    Enjoy a wonderful new year!

  3. Elizabeth--Glad to hear how the querying worked out for you in the end! Thanks for the encouragement and happy 2010!

Jemi--It's probably better not to make resolutions. I break most of them (like the exercising everyday and giving up take out food). To get better and do your best like you say is the most important thing. Have a happy and stress-free new year!

  4. All the best for you in 2010, Lorel ;)
Here in Serbia people also celebrate the Orthodox New Year (January 13th) according to the old calendar so I guess my greetings and wishes are not belated :))

  5. ps writing about the new episode of LEGEND OF THE SEEKER today in my blog I again came to conclusion that Australians are the most beautiful people on Earth :) I was always stunned by the beauty of your women and men.
And it interesting that 90% of my favourite actors are Ozzies :) KARL URBAN, TONI COLLETTE, CATE BLANCHETT, SAM WORTHINGTON, ERIC BANA .... CRAIG PARKER, JESSICA MARAIS, HOLLY VALANCE (who is also Serbian), KYLIE AND DANNI, HUGH JACKMAN... and those are just a few of them :)

  6. Happy 2010 to you Dezmond (for Jan 13th)! I will go over and check out your Legend of the Seeker article. I love that show! And you are so right about all the beautiful Ozzies and Kiwis. I feel self-conscious when I'm at the beach, because I'm short and naturally pale, so I look out of place--the reason I wear a skinsuit. I met Elle McPhearson's family once, talk about tall and beautiful. So demoralizing.
